I hate needles. I hate the sight of blood.

And yet, when I found out a couple years back that I had the rarest blood type, AB negative, I felt compelled to get over my fear and donate blood.

So far, I’ve donated four times via the Naples Bloodmobile. Not a lot, I know, but coupled with the fact that I hate needles, apparently my veins are terrible. Not a good combination! In fact, when I went recently for blood work, the nurse couldn’t believe that I donate blood given how much trouble she was having finding a viable vein.

But I go because it’s important. I know if I was on the receiving end, I’d be thankful.

So, if you’ve been thinking about donating, now’s your chance!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 27, the Community Blood Center of Naples’ Bloodmobile will be at Waterside Shops, which is located at the corner of U.S. 41 and Seagate Drive, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All successful donors receive a $10 gas card!
